For the purpose of registration, the number of members of the
Institute is declared to be unlimited. |
 |
(i) |
The membership of the Institute shall
consist of the following categories :
Honorary Fellows, Fellows, Members and Associate Members. |

|
|
|
(a) |
Honorary Fellows shall be such
persons of distinction who have rendered eminent service
in ceramics or allied science, technology and
engineering. |
|
|
|
|
|
Honorary Fellows shall enjoy such privileges as may from time
to time be determined by the Council and shall not be liable
to pay admission fee or subscription. |
|
|
|
|
|
|
(b) |
Fellows shall
be such persons who have high academic qualifications
and made highly significant contribution towards
advancement of ceramics and shall have 10 year’s
experience in the profession of ceramics. |
|
|
|
OR |
|
|
|
They shall be such persons who have sufficient educational
background made considerable contributions towards development
of ceramics, held high positions of responsibility and shall
have at least 15 years’ professional experience in the field
of ceramics. They shall normally be Members of 7 years’
standing of the Institute. |
|
|
|
Fellows shall not normally be less than 35 years of age at the
time of election or transfer from lower categoeies of
membership. |
|
|
|
|
|
|
(c) |
Members shall be such persons who are
engaged in any of the branches of ceramics and have
acquired at least 8 years’ experience in the field of
ceramics, of which 5 years shall be in a position of
responsibility. They shall either be Associate Members
of 5 years’ standing of the Institute. |

|
|
OR |
|
|
|
Have a post graduate degree in Science or a degree in
Engineering or Technology or its equivalent and shall have 5
years’ experience and attained adequate competence in the
field of ceramics. |
|
|
|
Members shall not normally be less than 30 years of age at the
time of enrolment or transfer from Associate Membership. |
|
|
|
|
|
|
(d) |
Associate
Members shall be such persons who have either passed in
the appropriate examination held by the Institute. |
|
|
|
OR |
|
|
|
They shall be having either a post-graduate degree in Science
or a degree in technology or Engineering or equivalent and are
engaged in the profession of ceramics. |
|
|
|
Associate Members shall not normally be less than 25 years of
age at the time of election. |
|
|
|
|
(ii) |
In addition to the above categories, the Council may
decide to include other classes of membership with
qualification as shall be prescribed by the Bye-laws of the
Institute from time to time. |
|
|
|
|
(iii) |
Each application for membership shall
be supported by three Members and Fellows of whom at
least one must be a Fellow of the Institute. |
|
|
|
|
(iv) |
The question whether any person shall
be regarded as coming within any of the categories
mentioned above shall be decided by the Council alone.
The Council’s decision shall be final, and the Council
shall not be obliged to give any reasons for its
decision. |
|
|
|
|
(v) |
Register of Members : The Institute shall maintain a
register of members containing the names, addresses and their
occupations, the date of admission and the date of cessation.
|
|
|
The Register will be kept open for inspection of the members
of the Institute on requisition. |
|
|
|
|
(vi) |
Subscriptions : |
|
|
The annual subscriptions and
admission fees for the different categories of members
shall be fixed and reviewed by the Council from time to
time subject to ratification by the General Body. |
|
|
|
|
(vii) |
Termination of Membership : |
|
|
Any member whose subscription is in
arrear for 24 months since becoming due shall forfeit
all the rights and privileges of membership. Nothing
herein contained shall prejudice the rights of the
Institute to claim payment of the full amount of the
subscriptions which the member shall have undertaken to
pay or prevent the member from again becoming eligible
for membership. |
